Is there a Limit to your Creative Potential

I would argue there isn’t a limit to your creative potential. You are limited only by where you perceive your ceiling is. Limits are set by limiting beliefs, which I would also argue, are a figment of your imagination. Every thought you have is a figment of your imagination anyway. You write the script, you might as well direct your focus in a way that sets your standards that are well and truly out of the park. You draw the line where you think you might be able to potentially end up in terms of your talent. I would be wary of where you set that line. Set it to close to you and it might become a self fulfilling prophecy. Yes, this requires effort, but effort is so much easier when you have a bigger vision for yourself.
We live in an age of technological advancements that are unparalleled. This is exciting for an Artist. Every update to digital illustrating/painting software brings us one step closer to truly uninhibited self expression. If the potential for the tools we use to be limitless, then why set limits on our potential. The advancements in technologies that allow us to express ourselves and be noticed by a wider audience are there, and they are only improving. I’d say that is something to be very excited about!

Anyone Can Draw!

I’ve heard it said so many times – ‘but I just can’t draw’. That just simply isn’t true. Every drawing is just lines on a page. If you can draw a line, you can draw. Figuring out where to put those lines is what every artist struggles with. No artist can pick up a pencil and draw anything. It takes looking at each piece and figuring out where you went wrong (or how you could improve things). It is through this process that I believe anyone can draw. Just like riding a bike, time will help you figure out where to put each pencil mark to optimize your illustrations.
If you don’t get it right the first time. Don’t worry. Some of my drawings have just not worked (at all!) when I first drew them. With a bit of chopping and changing the drawing sometimes comes out so well that you’ll wonder why you ever thought of trashing it! You can do several studies to make sure you understand what you are drawing. If the first isn’t looking right, try it again. I guarantee, you’ll be glad that you did!

Look for Inspiration Everywhere!

As artists we see the world differently. This can be hugely advantageous. We can look at the world as a series of opportunities. As a puzzle to figure out or to interpret in our own unique way. Every moment can become an opportunity to observe something new or to galvanize a new idea in it’s fledgling form.
Take this opportunity to look around you. To appreciate the vastness and connection in everything. The next moment could be your moment to find that big idea. To uncover a new concept. Relax, breathe and enjoy the creative process. It is never ending and neither are the wonders of this world!
Create without limits!

The Landscape of Learning has Changed

It is no secret that the era of attending university is fast approaching its twilight. The days of having one career, or any one skill over a lifetime is an antiquated notion. To obtain a degree now seems inefficient, costly, and in some cases inaccessible. We can now learn (online) at an unprecedented rate. Anyone can become an expert in multiple subjects. The content is a click away. This is encouraging for any artist or person wanting to acquire a new skill.
Business training, Diplomas and anyone who falls between the category of hobbyist to professional can upgrade their skills without incurring huge costs. This can all be done from the comfort of your own home. It’s exciting to be present in this age of hyper learning. It is my hope that you climb aboard and learn some new skill that wont break the bank. A competence that might send you on a trajectory that is both rewarding and helps you expand both your consciousness and intellect. You can also have a ton of fun along the way!

Set The Stage For New Up And Coming Artists

Remember that if you take a hit in terms of the price range you set your work at, the next artist who comes along will suffer as well. How many artists have told you, ‘yes, but you can’t make any money illustrating and painting’. You practically hear it every day. It’s time to change that, illustrators/painters (and for that matter – any artist) have incredible value. Have you ever read a book, watched a movie or heard a song that resonated and enlivened something deep within you. Stirring something laying dormant. It helped you walk a little taller, take that first step towards a relationship or to follow your passion (whatever that may be). Perhaps those changes meant getting into shape, to travel or change something that’s been challenging you in your life.
