Detatching from the piece

    The best piece of advice I received from a a judge at an art competition was, ‘to detach from the piece’. She explained that while producing a piece and once a piece is completed the best thing you can do, ‘is to create without clinging onto your work’. It definitely helped me create more freely. However, it’s a tough lesson to implement. It’s counter-intuitive to think that the wrist,hand and pen/stylus should work freely without a great deal of clinging to what you are working on. Being to absorbed in a piece can have it’s negative side. We obsess over our work rather than letting it come from a very free and natural place. It has taken me quite some time to realize that the act of letting go opens up a vast creative platform to which their are no limits.
